Spring Bear Hunting Versus Fall Bear Hunting
Hunting black bear is the most productive during Spring because natural food sources are scarce at this time. Black bears are hungry and visit our baiting sites on a regular basis. On the other hand, Fall black bears have a larger supply of food sources available and don't really need to rely on our baits for sustenance, that's the reason why our Fall black bear bowhunts are spot and stalk hunts. Another good reason to pick Spring for your next black bear hunt is that bears have their nicest coats during the early season. By comparison, the late season bears wear their summer coats with many bald spots.
Bowhunting Black Bear Over Bait or Still Hunting?
Bowhunting black bear is quite popular as they are impressive animals. They give to bowhunters unforgettable memories and beautiful trophies. In other words, black bears are made for archery hunters, from 13 to 77 years old (see Walt and his trophy bear). Some think that bowhunting black bears over bait is not a real challenge. That's not true, as being only 15 yards away from a worried bear is not quite as simple as it seems. Try it yourself and you will understand what we are talking about. However, bowhunting black bears over bait is still more feasible for the average bowhunter than hunting black bears on ground level.
Classical and Always Very Productive; Spring Bear Bowhunts |
|
Our bowhunts take place in our 500 square miles territory dedicated to bear hunting. The archers hunt from tree-stands set up over baits regularly visited by hungry bears. The baiting process starts a few weeks before the hunt itself. Once discovered by bears, a site has to be replenished every two days in order to keep their interest. Each bait needs over 1,000 pounds of feeding material during this preparation period. As you can see, preparing a bait for hunting is a very serious job. |
