This video is about a wilderness longbowhunt for caribou on the Alaska Peninsula. We flew out of King Salmon. I was hunting with my bowhunting buddies, Mike Misch and Mike Carroll. We got some good video of caribou. The hunting was great for the first 4 days. Unfortunately, a weather front moved in, and forced us to remain huddled in our tent as the rain and 55 MPH wind pounded us for 6 and a half days. Mike Misch was fortunate enough to bag his first caribou with his longbow. We had to pack the meat 3 miles to our camp. Some thieving foxes helped themselves to some of our caribou meat. One night we were awakened by the unmistakable sound of a grizzly bear's deep, heavy, breathing within ten feet of our tent. I felt the panic and fear of danger and the flood of relief when our maniacal screaming sent him lumbering away. Some other hunters that we met weren't so lucky, as a grizzly devoured most of their caribou meat.

This video isn't as dramatic as some of our others, but it is entertaining and it is real Alaska wilderness hunting. When you watch this video you'll be able to share the thrill of the hunt as well as the frustration of having to deal with a myriad of problems.

I wrote a poem that was inspired by this hunt entitled "The Good Place".
